Qualified Therapist, specialising in consultancy, training and therapy for young children

About me

I am now based in Worcestershire

Welcome to my website.  I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2004, obtaining a BSc in Human Communication Science, to which I added an MSc in Speech Difficulties in 2010 from the University of Sheffield.  I worked for more than 10 years for the NHS in community clinics, mainstream & special schools.  I have extensive experience in supporting children with a wide range of communication difficulties, specialising in early years, complex difficulties and Speech Sound Disorder (SSD).

In December 2013 I had the opportunity to work for Hampshire County Council and, jointly with a colleague, developed and managed the Early Communication Support Service.  In November 2014 I joined Portsmouth University’s School of Health and Social Care as Senior Lecturer alongside the development of my independent practice.

In 2016 I had the honour of receiving a Winston Churchill Trust Fellowship which enabled me to travel to Australia to investigate early intervention for speech sound disorder.  It was an extraordinary and exciting adventure of discovery.  The report from this Travel Fellowship is available to read on http://www.wcmt.org.uk/users/suzannechurcher2016

Currently I combine working as University Teacher within the department of Human Communication Science at the University of Sheffield and managing a small independent caseload.  As a University Teacher I work across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  I am admissions tutor for postgraduate study and continue to explore the topic of Speech Sound Disorder and early intervention.

Services
I offer individual advice and information to families who have concerns regarding their young child's speech and or language development.  I am able to offer individual assessment and or therapy tailored to specific needs.  I am happy to visit schools or preschools to make recommendations to staff, support the delivery of therapy and/or upskill staff.

I offer a consultancy service to those working with young children in whatever capacity, who wish to develop and broaden their understanding of speech language and communication development and the impact of speech, language and communication needs.

I am dedicated to life long learning and the promotion of knowledge regarding communication development in young children, speech and language development and difficulties and the relationships between spoke and written language.  Please see the University of Sheffield Department of Human Communication Sciences: httphttps://www.sheffield.ac.uk
for more information regarding postgraduate study for those working with young children in an educational, social care or special provision context.
